My Experiences
Alternative Spring BreakIn March of 2020, I spent a week in Kansas City, Missouri where I volunteered at Sheffield Place: a homeless shelter that creates an environment of self-sustainability for homeless mothers and their children. While there, I helped clean houses, moved residents from the shelter into local permanent housing, and had the pleasure of conversing with some of Sheffield Place's clients. I was able to hear the inspiring success stories of these mothers, while working with their children to create acts for a talent show that we performed on our final day.

OT Observation Hours
I have completed 43 hours of observation in contact with a registered occupational therapist. I spent 26 of those hours volunteering and observing at SkyClimb Sensory Development Center in Winchester, VA during a summer camp in July, 2019. As part of the sensory camp, I guided the kids through various activities to improve motor planning and bilateral integration. I also had the opportunity of observing the feeding camp, which was directed towards encouraging kids to explore new foods. I completed these hours under the supervision of Terin Fetty, MS, OTR/L, Director of SkyClimb. Additionally, I spent 17 hours observing activities designed to strengthen handwriting, hand-eye coordination, and the vestibular processing system at the Children's Hospital of Richmond- Petersburg Therapy Center in Petersburg, VA. I completed these hours in January of 2017 and August of 2019, under the supervision of Andrea Harris, MOTR/L. Both facilities were outpatient settings with pediatric clients.
Mission Trip to PeruDuring the summer of 2014, I traveled to Trujillo, Peru with members of my church's youth group. While there, we painted a church and remodeled the church's kitchen in the small town of Salaverry. I also volunteered at a dump Ministry, performed a clarinet duet during one of the church services, and spent time interacting with kids from a local orphanage. It was a life changing experience and I would love to travel back to Peru if given the opportunity.
